Janeen Horne is a Visual Artist living in Geraldton, Western Australia where she has resided for over 30 years. After completing her Diploma in Art Studies at the Regional College of TAFE in 1988, she had her first successful Solo Exhibition of gouache paintings of the Abrolhos Islands in 1990.
A principal theme in Janeen's paintings is the natural environment which includes the stunning flora, landscape and seascape of Western Australia. Her father, a natural history photographer and conservationist, greatly influenced how she perceives the natural world and has had a profound effect on her creativity.
Janeen enjoys experimenting with a variety of mediums including fibre, textiles, printmaking and mixed media but specialises in gouache and acrylic painting. Using a layered technique, paint is applied to the surface by dribbling, splattering, mark-making, mon printing, stencilling and blocking out before the final layer is applied. This creates extra depth in her works which encourages the viewer to look within.
Biannually, Janeen has a Solo Art Exhibition showcasing her latest collection of artworks. She turns her tranquil coastal garden at Sunset Beach into an open-air Art Gallery (Art and Music in the Garden by the Sea) for several days in the spring. Janeen also facilitates Winter Workshops from her art studio every year from May until September.
In 2021, Janeen has been invited by Bush Heritage Australia to Hamelin Reserve in Shark Bay as the Artist in Residence. This will be the inspiration for her next solo exhibition to be held in her garden by the sea in spring 2021.
You are welcome to visit Janeen in her Art Studio at Sunset Beach by appointment.
